IKEA Usability Test and Report

A usability test was created and conducted on IKEA's website using real-life participants. The research was analyzed and articulated into a report that laid out effective recommendations for the websites usability issues.

Quickly! What is the first thing that comes to mind when I say “IKEA”?

..

.

If you said “meatballs” then you’d be correct. The end.

Imagine if it was that easy. No, in actuality you were probably thinking

something along the lines of “build-it-yourself” furniture store with

easy-to-follow instruction manuals. This is a business model that IKEA

excels at, but this easy-to-follow structure is one that fails to translate

to their website’s navigation.

How can customers easily build their furniture if they cannot easily find

it?

This was the main question I asked myself after conducting multiple

usability tests on their website and what inspired certain

recommendations to alter their interface such as:

  • Clean-up the navigation menu

  • Sub-sections within the menu

  • Easier access to the FAQ page

Now that that is done I'm suddenly craving meatballs.. not sure why.
